Irani Chai - The Cafe Culture Of Nizam's

Most of the time, early mornings are drowsy and frazzle. To set ourselves free from all these, the only thing you need to do is, start your day with a cup of Chai which makes you feel so soothing and yet makes you forget everything. Chai, which only reminds everyone of Irani Chai. After Biryani, Hyderabad is again famous for the Irani Chai. And yes, Irani Chai has all our hearts.

How Did Irani Chai Come Into Hyderabad

Those were the days in the 20th century when Irani Chai came into the picture. Irani, the name itself speaks about the origin. Yes, again Persian(also called Iran) brought the culture of Irani Chai into Hyderabad.

When people of Iran reached Mumbai airport, they thought of avoiding religious harassment and wanted to live their life in a better way. Then they moved to Pune and then to Hyderabad. Throughout the trip, they carried the cafe culture with them. When Persians finally reached Hyderabad, they introduced the cafe culture to the city of Nizams. Here is where Irani Chai began.

In the late 1990s, along with Irani Chai, Osmania Biscuits were also introduced. These were baked to serve the guests to express Osman Ali's delight. Mir. Osmani Ali was the person behind Osmania biscuits. That is the reason Osmania is named after the biscuits. And you know what, having a cup of Irani Chai with Osmania biscuits is a deadly combination ever.

Irani Chai has many flavors with a special variety of ingredients like Cova, Malai, Mawa, Cream, etc. The Chai can be served in different ways concerning individual choice. Khade Chammach Ki Chai (In a cup, Chai is filled with extra sugar and the spoons look in a straight position) and Burke Wali Chai (where the top of the Chai is decorated with heavy cream) are the variants of Irani Chai.

The best place to have a cup of Irani Chai is the Madina Cafe, the famous Nimrah Cafe near Charminar, the Alpha Hotel, Secunderabad.

Let’s Bring Our Irani Chai Back.

Where were the days when people used to sip Irani Chai along with Osmania biscuits, sharing their thin and thick times, gossiping on others, the heart that filled with laughs, newspaper discussions?

All those days have faded because the youth of this generation opted for a contemporary style of living rather than the traditional living. From chai stalls to modern cafeterias and cafes, the life of an individual has changed and is filled with stress. Before, one by two chai was the most heard phrase from people, but now just about capturing the pics of fancy tea cups and jugs.

Let's get back to our Irani Chai. Let's share good old memories with a cup of chai. Let's gossip about each other and make ourselves laugh again. Instead of spending time by taking selfies and involved in posting pictures on social media, let's get back to the old conversations with friends and families.
