15, August 2020: Today India is celebrating 74th Independence Day. It's been 74 years since we got freedom. The freedom of living without fear, the freedom of living a life with happiness, the freedom of living a life with peace. Do you remember about the great people who shed their blood to get Independence? Your answer would be, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, and a few more. But other than these great freedom fighters, also many brave women fought for Independence.
Here Are The Women Who Should Be Remembered And Respected For Their Braveness
Velu Nachiyar
Velu Nachiyar is the first woman freedom fighter who created the human bomb. She should be remembered for her bravery because she went to a British place where the bullets were stored. This was against British rule. That is the reason she is called the daring woman before Jhansi Rani came into light.
Matangi Hazra
The woman behind Quit India Movement and Non- Violence. She is also called Gandhi Bura. At the time of the procession, she was the female lead holding the flag in her hand after being shot thrice and took a forward move by saying “Vande Mataram”. She was the first woman, whose statue was first kept on the roads of Kolkata.
Aruna Asaf Ali
The daring freedom fighter who held the Indian flag at the Gowalia Tank Maidan, Bombay during the Quit India Movement. She is the bravest independence activist who took part in Salt Satyagraha and then imprisoned. Popularly, she is best known as “The Grand Old Lady”.
Bhikaji Cama
She is an esteemed woman of the Independence movement who belongs to the Parsi family. She focused on the equality between women and men and helped many young orphanage girls by offering her assets. Being an Indian Ambassador, she traveled to Germany to hoist the Indian National Flag.
Tara Rani Srivastava
Tara Rani, a woman from Bihar joined the Quit India Movement song with her husband. She took part in many protests and planned to raise the Indian Flag on the top of Siwan Police Station. In the protests, she lost her husband because police fired on them. But she didn't give up. She continued the march by saying “Inquilab”. That is how she showed her love for the nation.
Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay
Kamaladevi was the first woman to be arrested by the British for her patriotic activities and the first woman in the Legislative Assembly. She took part in promoting handicrafts, theatres, and also in Salt Satyagraha.
Apart from these brave women, other women also shed their lives for the nation. All the freedom fighters should be remembered forever. They deserve gratitude, respect, and a big salute from all the fellow Indians.
