Hyderabad is a place of many historical monuments. Other than Charminar and Golconda, also there are a few places which everyone needs to visit. Among those places, here is one more, The Spanish Mosque.

Jam-e-Masjid is located on the roads of Begumpet. The masjid is very famous for its architecture and is also known as the Spanish Mosque. The masjid holds a curve-shaped architecture with a star on the top and looks beautiful in mint green color. Also, the minarets add more attraction to the mosque.

The Mosque was built by the Nizam’s third maternal grandson, Nawab Viqar-ul-Umra Iqbal-ud-Doula. Among Nizam’s contributions to Hyderabad, Spanish Mosque is also one of them.

Why Spanish Mosque Famous?

Spanish Mosque sets the example of Moorish architecture which is similar to Islamic architecture. It originated in the Iberian Peninsula where Spain is part of it. The prayer hall of the Mosque was designed with mosaic work and with calligraphy arts which look simple yet beautiful.

Also, there is another name for this Mosque, “which is the Mosque of Moors” because of its unique Moorish architecture. The minarets catch the eyes of the visitor when entering the Mosque.

The Mosque is very famous, as it is considered as the landmark for the Muslim Community Mosque of Secunderabad. On the evenings of Friday, it can hold a maximum capacity of 2000 people. Also, the community members of the Mosque provide wooden water stalls for drinking water. And it is believed that the Mosque holds the graves of the Paigah family members, as it was built by them.
